The president of the Chicago Police Union has alleged that Jussie Smollett’s investigation was interfered with by Cook County’s top prosecutor. The president wants the Justice Department to look into the situation to confirm if the prosecutor broke any laws while doing her job.
According to WLS-TV, Kevin Graham put in a petition with the Justice Department following reports that Kim Foxx had interfered with the investigation of Smollett’s case. According to him, Foxx had instructed the Police Superintendent to hand over the investigation to the FBI. You will recall that Smollett had alleged in January that he was attacked by two men in ski masks. Graham said the prosecutor made the decision based on an instruction from Michelle Obama’s former Chief of Staff who informed Foxx about the actor’s family’s concerns about the attacks.
Smollett had appeared in court pleading not guilty to the 16 charges leveled against him for lying to the police and poor conduct. The prosecutors have alleged that Smollett had hired the two men to stage the attack. According to them, his reason was that he needed a pay rise. The Empire actor has denied any involvement with the attacks saying he is innocent.
