Nasib Abdul, more popular by his stage name Diamond Platnumz was recently banned by Tanzanian authorities from performing in the country. The reason for the ban being that he was found playing a song which had been banned by the arts authorities for being sexually implicative.
The single Mwanza released by the artist earlier in the year contains a word which in Swahili translates to horny. To make it worse, dancers in the video can be seen imitating sexual postures and mannerisms. Regardless of the initial ban Diamond Platnumz went ahead to perform the song at a concert in Mwanza to a huge crowd.
The arts regulator has accused Platnumz of treating the authorities with disdain despite the initial warning. Well, if you know Diamond Platnumz well you should know he’s not usually far from controversies. In April he was approached by the police after being seen in a compromising position with a woman.
Mwanza already has over 5 million views on YouTube and Diamond is already billed to headline a show in Kenya before the end of the year. In responding to the ban, which also involves Rayvanny who featured in the song, Platnumz said there is a possibility of him relocating if the Tanzanian authorities will continue to ban his songs.
While the drama keeps unfolding, we could grab some popcorn, sit back and watch what happens as the authorities have said the ban could also be effective outside the country.
