The BET Soul Train Awards 2018 were held on Sunday, November 25, and Erykah Badu was given the Legend award to acknowledge her efforts in the entertainment industry.

The show was hosted by Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell-Martin while the award was presented to Badu by SZA. The neo-soul sensation, Badu, took time out to appreciate her mother, who was part of the audience. She also expressed her gratitude to Roy Hargroove, the late jazz trumpeter. In rounding off her speech she sent her condolences to Diddy and his family over the loss of Kim Porter.

Artistes like Solange, Ari Lennox, Dave Chappelle, Jacquees Jon, Andre 3000, and Questlove paid himage to Badu. They spoke about her legacy and the influence she had on the entertainment industry as a whole. All of these was shown in a video montage.
Badu performed her 1997 song “Tyrone” at the BET Soul Train Awards.
