The summer of 2017 marked a special time in the lives of both Etana, Jamaican artist and the amazing producer, Tad Dawkins. The duo had met to discuss how Etana could record a song on a project by Tad’s company. Apparently the discussion went further than just recording for on the Old King Cole Riddim project.
According to Tad who spoke to the Jamaica Observer, he said “We started to talk about a collaboration between Tad’s (International) Record and Freemind Music (Etana’s company) to put out her next album. That was the birth of Reggae Forever and here we are with a top-notch Grammy-nominated album.”
Yesterday the nominees for the 61st Grammys were announced and these are the nominees for best reggae album:
- Reggae Forever (Etana)
- 44/876 (Sting feat. Shaggy)
- A Matter of Time (Protoje)
- As the World Turns (Black Uhuru)
- Rebellion Rises (Ziggy Marley)
It is a great leap for both individuals as this is the second time Tad’s company is getting into the Grammys and only the first for Etana. Tad says he is not surprised at the nomination as he believes “Reggae Fever” was the best reggae song for 2018.
The song was released in March 2018 and the release coincided with Etana’s US tour along with J Boog, the Hawaiian singer.
