In a pre-holiday legal development, an individual identified as Jane Doe has leveled accusations of sexual assault against actor Jamie Foxx, dating back to 2015.
As reported by Variety, the woman claims that Foxx took her to a secluded area of the Catch rooftop bar in New York, where she alleges he “rubbed her breasts and groped her under her pants against her will.”
The accuser is seeking compensation for physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment, and economic harm resulting from the alleged assault, though the specific amount is unspecified, according to CNN.
The lawsuit details that the plaintiff and a friend occupied a table next to Jamie Foxx and the bar owner, Mark Birnbaum. Around 1 a.m., the woman’s friend requested a photo with Foxx, which he agreed to, taking several pictures. Following this, Foxx purportedly directed his attention to the plaintiff, offering compliments and making comparisons to Gabrielle Union.
After the compliments, the woman claims Foxx led her to a more secluded area. Allegedly dressed in a crop top, she asserts that Foxx groped her breasts under the top and, to her surprise, slid his hands into her pants, touching her vagina and anus. The lawsuit contends that a security guard witnessed the groping but did not intervene. Foxx reportedly stopped when the woman’s friend approached.
The accuser is also suing the venue’s parent company, Catch Hospitality Group, and related entities for “negligent hiring, training, and supervision,” as per CNN.
Following the alleged assault, the woman sought medical treatment due to feeling sore.
The lawsuit was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, allowing a one-year window for victims to file sexual abuse claims that might have been dismissed due to statute of limitations. The deadline for lawsuits under the act expired on November 23, and the lawsuit against Jamie Foxx was filed on November 22.
As of now, Jamie Foxx has not publicly commented on the lawsuit. In September, he was seen in Mexico with his rumored girlfriend.
Notably, Diddy faced a similar legal challenge under the Survivors Act. Cassie, his former girlfriend and Bad Boy Records artist, accused Diddy of sexual assault, abuse, and sex trafficking. Both parties settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount less than 48 hours later.
