The family of Jemel Roberson, the hero security guard killed by the police, just received a donation of $150,000 from Kanye West. Jemel’s GoFundMe page, which was run on behalf of his mother received ten $15,000 payments from the iconic rapper, Kanye West.
The amount targeted was doubled by the sum raised totaling $300,000. Jemel’s GoFundMe page read, “Sadly, Jemel’s life was tragically and unexpectedly cut short this morning as he tried to save others from senseless violence. Today, many remember him as a hero; one who put others before himself.”
Jemel was killed while trying to disarm an armed man at a bar where he worked on November 11. In a statement by the Illinois Police department, it was stated that the white officer involved had been placed on administrative leave while the occurrence is being investigated.
A witness by the name Adam Harris while speaking to WGN, a Chicago television station, said that Jemel had the gunman on the ground with his knee in his back and the gun behind him saying “Don’t move.” While everyone was shouting security, the police saw a black man with a gun in his hand and basically shot him.
Jemel was taken to the hospital but died of gunshot wounds not long after.
