One would have thought winning a beauty pageant will be a thing of joy but it was not the case for the new Miss Algeria. The 26-year old Miss Algeria, Khadija Ben Hamou, faced lots of criticism as soon as she was announced the winner of the Miss Algeria pageant.
Her critics spoke about her skin color saying she was ugly because she had a dark skin color. Comments poured in from several social media platforms questioning why a dark person should win the title.
Khadija is from the southern part of Algeria and the first from that part of the country to win the prestigious title. The title puts her in position to contest in the next Miss World pageant.
The young queen dismissed the comments by saying she was a citizen of one of the 48 States in the large country so it shouldn’t be a shock that she won. She went ahead to appreciate her supporters while she prayed for guidance for her haters.
A lot of the prominent figures in Algeria are light-skinned and hail from the larger Northern region. While some people described her as the true shade of Algerian beauty, others called her ugly and not pleasing to the eyes.
Khadija beat 16 other contestants to be crowned Miss Algeria 2019.
