Netflix has appointed Kenyan film producer, Dorothy Ghettuba, as its Manager for International originals. This comes at the heels of Netflix’s decision to begin original shows from Africa from 2019. Ghettuba made the announcement via her Instagram account as she said: “Onwards and Upwards, telling African Stories.”
Netflix believes that with the commissioning of original shows for African audiences they can grow viewership and subscription from the region. It is also expected to reduce the cost of access while increasing demand.
The movie producer is the founder and CEO of Spielworks Media which is based in Nairobi, Kenya. The African film production company was established in 2009. She has a dream of growing the company into an African replica of Universal Studios, the American Movie production company.
