The official tour of the royal couple, Prince Charles and Camilla, to West Africa has officially begun. Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall are on an eight day tour of West Africa.
During their tour they will be visiting three West African countries starting at The Gambia and then moving to Ghana before rounding off in Nigeria. This is the first time the Prince who was recently designated as the next head of the Commonwealth will be traveling to any of the Commonwealth countries. Prince Charles was designated as the next head of the Commonwealth countries in April, 2018.
In a build up to the tour of the West African States, Prince Charles explained in a video, “As my wife and I prepare to embark on our upcoming tour of The Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria, I did just want to take this opportunity to send you all our special greetings and to say just how much we are looking forward to meeting so many of you … This will be the first visit to The Gambia for us both although we have heard so many wonderful things about the beauty of its natural environment and the resilience of its people.”
The Royal couple arrived The Gambia on October 30. They were welcomed by the country’s President, members of the cabinet and well-wishers. The Gambian President shared on twitter, “My wife and I were absolutely delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to The Gambia, the Smiling Coast of Africa!”
On November 2 the Prince and Duchess were treated to a welcome ceremony in Ghana which held at the Jubilee House. The Ghanaian Armed Forces played the anthems of the United Kingdom and Ghana.
The Royal couple are expected in Nigeria from the 6th to the 8th of November and they are billed to be welcomed by the Nigerian President and his cabinet.
