South African star actress, Pearl Thusi, is set to star in new movie by Netflix, “Queen Sono.” Pearl is considered a legend in her own right after starring on projects like “Quantico.” Netflix have announced that they will be producing the first African original series and production work is expected to kick off by 2019.
Kagiso Lediga and Tamsin Andersson, who directed and produced “Catching feelings” respectively will be teaming up for “Queen Sono” as well. Netflix’s Vice President in charge of International Original series, Eric Barmack, confirmed the “Queen Sono” production. He said, “We are excited to be working with Kagiso and Pearl, to bring the story of Queen Sono’s life, and we expect it to be embraced by our South African users and global audiences alike.”
This went ahead to share her thoughts on what this opportunity spells for African actors. She said, “It’s going to change the game for every artist on this continent. I cannot wait for every young woman, every woman on this continent and on this planet to meet Queen Sono. We’ve worked so hard for this.”
In November Eric Barmack had announced that a couple of Original series will be produced by Netflix in the nearest future, specifically 2019.
