A press release from the White House has said that President Trump met with five Caribbean leaders on Friday at the Mar-a-Lago. Part of the agenda discussed was China and Venezuela. The press release said the US President met with leaders of Jamaica, The Bahamas, Haiti, Saint Lucia, and the Dominican Republic.
President Trump’s meeting among other things was arranged to show how important the Caribbean is to world affairs and how much the US wants to ensure that relations are kept cordial. The President also discussed his vision for the relationship between the US and Caribbean countries as well as investment in the energy sector.
The President says he wishes to create a working relationship with countries of the Caribbean to counter the effect of China’s economic practices which are predatory in nature. He went ahead to appreciate the leaders present for their role in maintaining the peace and democracy of Venezuela.
The results of the meeting are expected to signal a new day in the Caribbean and the opening up of more opportunities in the region.
