It is very common with rappers to brag about past crimes or the ones they might commit in the nearest future. Such is the case of Cardi B who recently talked about drugging and robbing me while she used to be a stripper. The question, however, remains what will the effect of her recent admissions have on her career?
We all know about the accusations of sexual abuse leveled against R. Kelly and Bill Cosby in recent times. The question most have asked is if the rise of Cardi B from the strip club to being a reality star and finally to becoming a Grammy-winning rapper is being treated as a fairytale because she is a woman. Cardi B had confessed to doing a couple of things she wasn’t proud of on her way to stardom.
In a post, via her Twitter account, she confessed to drugging men and robbing them when they took her back to the hotel to sleep with during her stripping days. As soon as she posted this the backlash began and #SurvivingCardiB quickly began trending. Others began to compare her to Bill Cosby and R. Kelly based on their sexual abuse charges but Damien Scott has said her crime was not as grievous.
Cardi has however said in her defense that the men were conscious while she carried out her actions. Many people have however said that they believe if the rapper was a male the case would have been treated differently. The effect of this on her career is that it is possible she might not get too many endorsements soon.
Knowing Cardi B, it is definite that she will bounce back from this just as she did last year after her brawl with fellow rapper, Nicki Minaj. The same day they clashed was the day she found out about her Grammy nominations.
