Two years ago, Jaden Smith launched a food truck initiative called ‘I Love You.’ According to Complex, his goal was to provide free “healthy, vegan food” to people staying in the “Los Angeles’ Skid Row area.” His mobile I Love You Restaurant passed out brown paper bags; that included bowls of carrots and kale to some of the 8,000 people estimated to live in the area, The Hollywood Reporterreports.
And now, the rapper and actor is expanding his initial idea to include a restaurant that feeds the homeless for free.
“It’s for homeless people to get free food,” Smith said. “But if you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay; but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth; so that you can pay for the person behind you.”
“I see this as one, of many, steps towards creating change in our world, ”; Jaden Smith wrote on his restaurant’s official site.
Back in October, he launched a project called The Water Box. Complex reports that it’s a filtration system used to clean water; in order provide access to a necessary resource where it’s most needed. Using the system, Jaden has donated the equivalent of about “300,000 bottles of water” to Flint, Michigan.
Flint has been experiencing a severe water crisis over the last few years; that’s left 12 people dead and more than 80 ill. In January of this year, several charges were announced against former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder; and eight additional government staff members and officials.
