Halle Berry’s dedication to her craft knows no bounds, as the actress recently shared the physical toll that starring in action movies has taken on her body. During an interview with her *The Union* co-star, Mark Wahlberg, the 57-year-old Oscar winner candidly listed the numerous injuries she has sustained over the years.
Berry, known for her intense preparation for roles, has trained in various forms of martial arts including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, and capoeira, the latter specifically for her 2004 film *Catwoman*. Despite all this training, Berry hasn’t escaped the dangers of performing stunts. “I’ve been knocked out three times,” she revealed, highlighting just how physically demanding her roles have been.
The list of injuries Berry has sustained is staggering. She has broken an arm, five ribs (two while filming her directorial debut *Bruised* in 2021, and three during 2019’s *John Wick: Chapter 3*), her tailbone, two toes, and one of her middle fingers. These injuries are a testament to her willingness to push her body to the limits for the sake of her performances.
Berry also shared some of the more unusual challenges she has faced during her career. For her role in the 2012 film Dark Tide, she trained to hold her breath underwater for nearly two and a half minutes, an experience she described as feeling “like eternity.” Playing the role of Storm in the *X-Men* films also posed unique difficulties, particularly when she was suspended in the air for extended periods. “It felt like the guy had gone to lunch. That’s how long I was up there,” she joked.

Mark Wahlberg, 53, who stars alongside Berry in the upcoming Netflix film *The Union*, also shared some of his own on-set injuries, including a torn meniscus and a separated shoulder. He added humorously that his “ego [was] bruised quite a few times” during his career.
In The Union, Berry and Wahlberg bring their characters to life in a story about a construction worker, played by Wahlberg, whose simple life is upended when his high school sweetheart, portrayed by Berry, reappears in his life after 25 years. Wahlberg, a longtime fan of Berry, praised the experience of working with her. “Doing anything with Halle is very easy but also an absolute joy,” he said. “Pretty much any guy or gal would do anything to win her over, so it was certainly easy when it came to me basically following her like a puppy.”
Halle Berry’s dedication to her craft is evident not just in the physical preparation for her roles but also in her resilience in the face of injuries. Despite the hardships, she continues to take on challenging roles that push her to the limits, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to delivering powerful performances.
