The Nigerian General elections are fast approaching, less than two weeks now. A Record Label in the country has put together a couple of musical talents to sing towards the long-awaited elections. The studios at Chocolate City Music, Lagos, played host to ten young artists who took turns in recording their verses on a new song about the elections. The ten artists were chosen from a total of 400 artists who entered the competition.
The project is labeled “Voice 2 Rep” project and it was set up with the aim of encouraging young musicians in the country. This will be done by distributing their products and mentoring them on how best to channel their gifts for a better Nigeria. One of the selected artists, Celeste Ojatula, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be chosen as part of the project. He said they had been trained and exposed to a lot of knowledge during their time at the competition.
This is not the first time musicians are coming to do something during elections in Nigeria. Music has always played a major role during elections. Usually, A-List artists come together to sing for peaceful elections. They also sing to encourage eligible voters to come out en masse during the elections.
The idea behind the competition is not to give monetary rewards. It was to ensure that youth are empowered to use their talents for social development in Nigeria.
