SAMUEL L. JACKSON AND LATANYA RICHARDSON
It’s been almost 40 years since the award-winning actor Samuel L. Jackson and his wife and actress, LaTanya Richardson agreed to forever on the 14th of January 1980. The couple met when Samuel L. Jackson was attending Morehouse College and LaTanya, a graduate from Spelman College. They started dating in 1974 and after six years of being together, they made it official in 1980. Their daughter, Zoe Jackson was born not too long after in 1982. Regardless of the difficulties of being a couple in Hollywood, these two have somehow made it happen. This is, in fact, black love at its finest.
DENZEL AND PAULETTA WASHINGTON
In a 2010 Guardian article, Denzel spoke on his long-lasting marriage “There is no secret to the perfect marriage. I have been married 27 years to Pauletta. Everybody has their ups and downs; we’ve had ours. It’s hard work, you know. But we made a commitment. A spiritual foundation helps everything – marriage, work, peace of mind.”. Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and his wife and actress, are household names that tied the knot on June 25, 1985. After an awkward first date in 1977 and Pauletta declining to marry him twice, the Washingtons have come so far. They have been married for almost 34 years, raised four children and excelled wonderfully in their careers. Amidst divorce and infidelity rumors, this power couple has shown what it means to truly love and have weathered the storm together.
Oprah and Stedman’s relationship is popular for not going by the ‘traditional’ means of being together. The power couple met at a Charity event in 1986 and have been together ever since without getting married.
The pair have been together for about 33 years and have maintained a private life together. The key to their successful relationship is respect for each other’s accomplishments. Stedman highlighted this during a segment on The Oprah Show.

Their love story began in 1989 when Michelle was assigned to be Barack’s mentor at a law firm in Sidley Austin, LLP.
The two soon became friends but Michelle declined his initial offers to go on a date with him. She told ABC News that, “Barack, about a month in, asked me out and I thought ‘No way. This is completely tacky’”. The fact that Michelle was his mentor never discouraged him and after his relentless pursuit, she agreed and they went on their very first date.
They had lunch at the Art Institute of Chicago, took a stroll and ended up seeing “Do The Right Thing”, a film by Spike Lee. It was the beginning of a beautiful journey for them. They got engaged in 1991 and on the third day of October 1992 they tied the knot, It’s been a solid 26 years and counting for the Obamas. They have raised two beautiful daughters and served in The White House for 8 years.
WILL SMITH AND JADA PINKETT-SMITH
In 1994, Will and Jada Smith met briefly on the set of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” where Jada auditioned for the role of Will Smith’s character’s girlfriend. Unfortunately, she wasn’t given the role as she was considered too short for it. In 1995, Will saw her on a college-themed TV Series, “A Different World” and he instantly knew she was the one.
However, Will was married at the time and had no intentions of leaving his marriage. He decided not to act on his feelings towards Jada and to continue with his life. His wife, Sheree Zampino Fletcher later ended things with him and then their love story began.
The pair got together and Will finalized his divorce with his ex wife in late 1995. In 1997, Will and Jada officially sealed their love in a quiet wedding. It’s been 21 years since then and they’ve had a rather interesting life.
They have worked on projects together through their joint brand called Overbrook Entertainment, received countless awards and have excelled well in their careers while raising their kids, Jaden, and Willow Smith.
