Every nation that has been under colonial rule and gained independence celebrates the anniversary of the event with so much fanfare. That was the case of Kenya last Tuesday as the country turned 55. One of the most famous beverages in Kenya, Kenya Cane, hosted a concert to celebrate the Kenyan Independence day.
It was a three county concert holding on the same night. It held in Meru, moved to Kisumu and climazed in Nairobi. The concert was tagged “Kenya @ 55 Sherehe Festival.” The climax of the three county concert was set at the Nairobi railway Grounds. The concert was more of a “one stone to kill two birds” event with the beverage company seizing the opportunity to present awards to participants of the “Shangilia Hustle ya Kenya” promotion.
Two people won Sh 100,000 each, Rispa Kerugo and Edith Barasa, the cash was in form of business support to both individuals. The crowd were kept on their feet by DJ Xclusive and Mwalimu Rachael as well as other DJs from all around Kenya. Lots of Kenyan music was played all night, as the DJs took the crowd down memory lane as well as playing the very recent hits.
Some of the top performers at the event include Nameless, Nonini, Redsan, and Wyre. The emcees collaborated with the crowd to sing happy birthday amidst a beautiful fireworks display before DJ MohSpice wound down the concert with some melodious reggae tunes.
