This is sure an absurd one. A young entrepreneur, Chris Kwekowe, rejected a job offer from the “almighty” Bill Gates. If you heard this and found it too difficult to believe, it is true. A twenty three year old Nigerian entrepreneur just rejected an offer of the man who sat on top of the world’s richest man list for over two decades.
Chris Kwekowe, 23, rejected a job offer from Microsoft and his reason was to start up his own firm in Lagos, Nigeria. In a television interview held in August 2016 the young entrepreneur had told Bill Gates that he had to reject a job with Microsoft to be a software engineer. The interview highlighted some of the brightest entrepreneurial brains on the African continent.
Chris Kwekowe rejected the job to start Slatecube which is a website aimed at bringing a lasting solution to unemployment problems in Nigeria. Instead of asking Bill Gates for a job on the show, like most of us expected him to, he told the Microsoft founder that he had rejected the software engineer role.
Chris said, “When I told him, Gates was intrigued and he smiled. After the programme, all the directors were like, ‘Dude, you mean you actually turned down a job at Microsoft and had the guts to tell Bill Gates?”
The young entrepreneur who is a graduate of Computer Science from Lagos worked with his brother to establish Slatecube in 2014. To finance the project they worked as software solution providers and freelance web designers.
