The Emmy Awards is one of the most anticipated events in Hollywood and the global scene at large. Talented and worthy recipients in the entertainment and film industries are honored for their outstanding roles and achievements.
The 71st edition of the Emmy awards took place in Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 22, 2019.
One of the highlights of the ceremony, especially for the black community was the recognition of 21-year old Jharrel Jerome, who won the award of Lead Actor in a Limited Series for the movie, “When They See Us”.
Apart from the recognition of movie roles, fashion also took centre stage as always. And we can say for a fact that bold colours dominated the purple carpet. Here are some of our amazing black celebrities who showed up and showed out for the emmys.
ASANTE BLACKK
Asante brought the heat in this cobalt blue and black number. The 17 year old actor starred in the series, When They See Us, and was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a limited series. Overall, he looked charming and should be a fashion moment for him.
ZENDAYA
Zendaya was definitely the Star-Diva of the Emmys. The actress sizzled in a custom emerald gown by Vera Wang. With her side-swept hair and sparkly earrings, Zendaya was an absolute stunner for the event.
LAVERNE COX
Laverne brought the wow factor for the Emmys with this show-stopping ruffle dress by Monsoori. The big bow was an eye snatcher adding the statement element to the look. Go big or go home baby! The actress complemented her look with a natural beauty look and sleek hair.
REGINA KING
The award-winning actress dazzled in a baby blue dress by Jason Wu. The high slit detail on the dress raised the sass levels by adding edgy vibes to the overall look.
MAHERSHALA ALI
Mahershala is not a newbie when it comes to red carpet fashion. As always, the actor looked dapper in a green ensemble by his regular designer choice, Ermenegildo Zegna.
ERIS BAKER
Eris Baker showed up in a stunning “tulle wonder” dress by Tadashi Shoji. The off-the-shoulder cut flattered her décolletage adding an elegant touch to her outfit. Her choice of a Euphoria-esque eye makeup elevated the look altogether.
SUSAN KELECHI-WATSON & TARAJI P HENSEN
Susan and Taraji were the colorful ladies of the night as they reinforced the pink and red colour trend for the Emmy awards this year. While Kelechi looked to make a statement with her puff sleeves, Taraji took the daring path with her low cut neckline and high slit. The pink and red sheer gown was also designed by Vera Wang. Both ladies went for makeup looks that accentuated their natural beauty balancing out the outfits.

The gorgeous This is us young star melted hearts on the purple carpet. The young actress gave us fairy princess vibes in the one-shouldered yellow ball gown with a glittery belt. Recently featured on the cover page of Twenty4Seven Magazine, the young bella complemented her look with side ponytail and a charming smile.
