The US has charged an ex-Vice President of Venezuela to court for assisting drug traffickers. The charges were unsealed by a federal court in New York. Tareck El Aissami and another businessman from Venezuela, Samark Jose Lopez Bello, were slammed the charges. The court records that they both violated US Treasury Department Sanctions and the Foreign Narcotics Designation Act.
The head of US Immigration and Customs in New York said both men will be scared of leaving Venezuela any time soon. This is because they will be indicted by the US government as soon as they do. The ex-Vice President has been accused several times of aiding drug traffickers by the US. He has denied all the allegations leveled against him every time they come up.
Aissami is the highest-ranking Venezuelan official to be targeted by the US government. There are several other Venezuelan officials being targeted by the US too for drug trafficking. The ex-Vice President has also been charged with hiring US-based companies to assist in providing private jets.
The two men in question are ages 44 and could be spending up to 150 years in jail each if found guilty.
