The Olympic Games hold every four years and frankly, we all look forward to the games. The next competition will hold in Tokyo, Japan in 2020 and five new disciplines have been added. In this article, we look at the new disciplines added to the 50 already on display at the Games.
Surfing
This is an outdoor sport which brings together over 35 million surfers from around the globe. It had been speculated that this discipline will be held on a wave pool. However, it has been concluded that it will hold on the ocean. It is expected to begin with a waiting period of 16 days. Once the Olympics begin, the sport will have just two days to run, having athletes compete in groups of four.
Skateboarding
This is also an outdoor competition which began as a leisure activity and developed into a competitive discipline. The discipline has a strong youth appeal and so perfectly fits the theme for the Tokyo Games which focuses on youth. Competitors will be graded based on the beauty and difficulty of their maneuvers.
Sport Climbing
In this sport, which can be held indoor or outdoor, athletes are required to climb steep surfaces with the whole of their bodies. The steep surfaces can be natural or manmade.
The other two disciplines added to the line-up are karate and baseball. In total, 55 sports disciplines will be featured in both the Olympic and Paralympic categories.
