Jackson Memorial Hospital nurse, Sierra Samuels has been fired after posting photos of a newborn baby with congenital disabilities on her instagram account. Sierra made fun of the baby on social media saying, “My night was going great then boom. Your intestines posed to be inside, not outside, baby!”
Sierra also hash tagged the photo, #gastroschisis. Sierra was on September 30th fired on the grounds of violating the hospital’s privacy policy and HIPAA mandates. In their statement, the health care system noted, “Employees who violate these privacy rules, despite being educated, are subject to disciplinary action including suspension or termination. As soon as we learned of this potential breach, we immediately placed this employee under administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Protecting the privacy of our patients is always a top priority at Jackson Health Systems. Any potential privacy breach is taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.”
Sierra Samuels has been working at the Jackson Memorial Hospital since 2016.
