Prior to last week Haiti had just one embassy on the African continent situated in the Republic of Benin. Last week however Haiti shut down that embassy leaving it with no Consulate on African soil. Haitian government officials have disclosed that the decision was made some time in 2016.
The Haitian government had disclosed its intention of shutting down the country’s embassy in Africa in July, 2016. There was however no clear date or nature of operation of the closure. An official statement following the closure made it clear that there was no bad blood between Haiti and the Republic of Benin.
The both countries look forward to strengthening ties as they are both connected by strong cultural ties established centuries ago. To ease inconveniences likely to be faced by Haitian nationals in Benin and the rest of Africa, the Embassy has prescribed making contact with the Haitian Embassy in Paris.
