I struggled to keep my head high as I walked towards the woman that was responsible for my situation. I feigned strength and refused to look intimidated. Bisi looked at me with soft eyes and smiled warmly.
“This is the lady, Madam. What do you say we do with this case”? The senior officer Mr Sekibo said, looking intensely at me.
“I’ll love to have her released as soon as possible. You cannot keep a pretty woman Locked up in a cell. It’s all a mistake out of ignorance” she looked at me with a warm smile again.
I could not believe my ears. Bisi was acting strange. No shouts? No threats? She wants me released? I let all my pent up emotions flow. I cried softly, whilst I tried to maintain my pride.
As soon as she said it, it was done. I signed an undertaking, collected my belongings. I walked back to the cell to bid the friends I made in my short time in Valhalla, a farwell. Bisi followed me closely and gave each of them wads of cash and promised to get a lawyer to look into their case.
Strangely, I missed the smell, the stench, the inmates and the police station. Bisi held my hands and asked to give me a lift. I was already defeated, so I accepted.
She drove me to a spa instead. She instructed that I be scrubbed clean and rejuvenated. It was her spa, one of her numerous business outlets.
She also took me to a boutique that is owned by her too and asked me to pick any outfit I wanted. By the time we were done, I had a new skin, a new hair do and bags of new designer clothes and shoes.
My eyes had reddened with tears and Bisi kept holding me close. She took me to the restaurant that Ola had taken me to on our first date. She owned the restaurant too!
I was filled with regret, guilt, shame, remorse and I did my best to show it.
As we sat down to eat, Bisi decided to speak up.
“My husband Ola, told me all that happened and I know it is not your fault. You didn’t know he was married. I also know what love can do, in as much as I didn’t get the privilege to feel that kind of love”.
I had nothing to say, so I let out a long sigh.
She continued. “I am sorry for whatever Ola has caused you and I am ready to compensate. I could speak to your General Manager to have you transferred to Abuja. You could use a change of environment from all this drama. I would give you one of my apartments to live in free of charge, you are a beautiful lady, no man should….”
I could not stomach it anymore. I let out a yelp. Luckily, it was just the both of us. We were dining at the Premium VIO section that’s permanently reserved for her”.
I apologized, cried, apologized some more and I could not stop crying.
She walked close to me, held me up, drew me close to her as her eyes scanned my body.
“you are beautiful Ene”. She ran her hands through my hair and brought her lips close to mine.
To be continued…
