Last Friday a Jamaican man was sentenced to almost six years in a United States prison for a failed scam attempt. Apparently, he had tried to scam a 94-year old man who unknown to him is an ex-FBI and CIA boss. The ex-government official had served under both Carter and Regan’s administrations.
Keniel Thomas, aged 29, was arrested and convicted last year for attempting to con William and Lynda Webster. Court documents revealed that Thomas had begun his scam attempt on Webster in 2014. He placed a call to the 94-year old to tell him that he had won a lottery of $72 million along with a Mercedes Benz. In reality, the young Jamaican had no idea of Webster’s past as an intelligence officer.
Webster when speaking about the issue on NBC said he was sure something wasn’t just right with the whole set up. It was clear that something was fishy. Thomas went ahead to try and con Webster and his wife of $50,000, a surcharge for taxes and the authorities. According to Webster, Thomas grew impatient and threatened shooting them.
This was when Webster informed the FBI who later apprehended the Jamaican on December 18, 2017. It is on record that Thomas had made over $300,000 scamming different residents of the US. Thomas pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 71 months in jail. He is expected to be deported to Jamaica after serving his jail term.
