The city of Chicago has reportedly begun a process to sue Empire actor, Jussie Smollett. He is being sued because he has failed to reimburse the State a total of $130,000 paid as overtime to officers who carried the investigation of a report of a hate crime against him in January.
The city had given the actor a week to reimburse the funds which he had failed to. This led to the city filing a report at the Cook County Circuit Court last Thursday. The Chicago City Law Department reported to the court that Smollett had not made the payment as required.
Page Six reports that the department had this statement in their report, “The City incurred significant costs in order to provide services reasonably related to the Defendant’s conduct.”
The Chicago police concluded after their investigation that the actor had orchestrated the attacks by hiring two brothers to abuse him. Late in January this year, the Empire star had reported the attack to the Chicago Police Department. He said he was beaten by two masked men who ranted racist insults and doused him with bleach.
