Michelle Obama is a lot of things, she is a mother, wife, former first lady, speaker, and now with the records from her new book, a “New York Times Bestseller.” The former US first lady released her book titled “Becoming” in November and by the end of the first day she had already sold 750,000 copies. Reports released by Associated Press say the book sold more than 1.4 million copies within the first week.
Becoming was released on November 13, barely two weeks ago, and the book is already one of the fastest selling memoirs of the year. The book has already outsold memoirs like “Hillary Clinton’s latest What Happened” which had a first week sales of 300,000 copies and Bob Woodward’s White House tell-all Fear: Trump in the White House that sold just over a million copies in the first week.
The book “Becoming” currently holds top spot in several countries for adult non-fiction books. Barnes and Noble announced that Michelle’s book ranked No. 1 of all books released in 2018. Liz Harwell, the senior director of merchandising trade books at Barnes and Noble said, “We knew Becoming was going to be one of the biggest books of the year, but it has now officially had the best first week of sales of any book in 2018, and is among the fastest sellers in Barnes & Noble history. This is definitely the must-have book of the holiday season.”
Michelle Obama is currently on a book tour visiting major cities in the United States like Chicago, New York, Washington, etc. When she visited Washington her husband, Barack, surprised her by sharing with the audience about the summer he met her. “The thing that I remember during that summer as we became friends, before she finally relented to a date, was she was one of a kind. I hadn’t met somebody who was that strong and that honest—somebody who I just felt was a rock, [she] was somebody who I knew at that point I would always be able to count on, and someone who that if she was the mother of my children I knew my children would turn out extraordinary,” he said.
