Not too long ago Netflix proclaimed that it would be parading a new array of original content sourced from Colombia. Of these list of content the one that has sparked a lot of interest so far is “Siempre Bruja” a young adult fantasy movie. By the way “Siempre Bruja” is Colombian for “Always a Witch.”
The brief synopsis of the drama states, “After a witch time travels to avoid being burned at the stake, she must adjust to life in present day Cartagena. But once a witch, always a witch.”
In the movie we get acquainted with a young black bruja known as Carmen who was burnt alive on a stake in Cartagenia. This happened in 1646 and the reason for her punishment, falling in love. Remezcla added in Spanish that why man fear women is simply because “they tempt, seduce and always think.”
The excerpt transitions from Carmen’s screams in travail to the emergence of her ageless self in 2019 from the midst of the ocean. At this point she gets accustomed to the modern world and her story proceeds onward.
The drama Siempre Bruja was is an adaptation inspired by Isidora Chacon’s novel, Yo, Bruja. In a public statement Netflix said that the production of the fantasy drama began in the summer of 2018. It was produced by Dago Garcia and shooting was Caracol Television. It is directed by Liliana Bocanegra and Mateo Stivelberg.
