For several years, legendary golfer, Tiger Woods, dominated the scene with his amazing strokes, winning practically every tournament he entered for. The year 2010 brought with it what one could call a devastating nosedive as the golfer’s fairytale career came crashing down.
First with his divorce which was blamed on infidelity, making him lose millions of dollars in the process. Then he had several run-ins with the law and lost a ton of endorsement deals and was stricken by injuries. One would have thought it was the end for the famous golfer, in fact, some had written off any chances of Woods reaching his peak ever again.
Last Sunday, Woods shocked the world in what is termed as the greatest comeback in the history of sports yet as he won his fifth Masters title, his first major title in 11 years, at Augusta National. He had cheering him his mother, girlfriend, and children throughout the competition and he couldn’t hold back his excitement after winning the prestigious green jacket.
According to Al Jazeera, the iconic golfer said, “It’s overwhelming, because of what has transpired. Last year I was just very lucky to be playing again. I missed a couple of years of playing this great tournament. And to now be the champion … what, is it 22 years [since his first Masters]? It’s a long time! It’s unreal.”
He was also thrilled that his family stood by him as he made history. His historic comeback was celebrated by fans and well-wishers all over social media with messages coming from the likes of President Trump, Serena Williams, Barack Obama, LeBron James, amongst others.
