2018 has bowed out and the New Year is here. There are expectations for the year including the kind of movies and TV shows to look forward to. 2018 had its fair share of cool entertainment but it appears 2019 is coming with a bang.
There are so many black movies and TV shows to anticipate in 2019 and we have brought you a few. Don’t worry there is no allowance for being bored in the New Year, especially if you are a lover of the silver screen.
Us
This movie comes to the theatres on 15 March and it is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, in fact, to describe it in those words is an understatement. As soon as we saw the trailer we knew it was not a movie to miss. Get ready and book your space in the cinemas.
Dolemite is my name
The final day of shooting on “Dolemite Is My Name” – it’s been an absolute joy working with this extraordinary cast and crew. Eddie Murphy is gonna knock your socks off with his performance as the legendary Rudy Ray Moore. pic.twitter.com/u0adDA3ccr

This movie probably has every black man that has tickled us over the last three decades. Stars on this one include Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Wesley Snipes, Keegan Michael-Kay, and many others. The movie tells the story of the man who created Rudy Ray Moore, the 1970s Blaxploitation star.
The Lion King
If this isn’t the blackest Disney movie then which is? The movie made its debut 25 years ago in animation, now we get it in live action. After seeing the trailer we knew the movie is a must watch after all the animated version is evergreen. Guess who the star of the show, Queen Beyoncé herself is. It’s a wonder Disney could steal her away from all of her motherly, wifely and movie responsibilities. The movie premieres on June 19, 2019.
Desus & Mero
Your favorite show on Showtime is back. Desus & Mero definitely got us with their hilarious comments we are sure at some point in 2018 you saw something and wished you heard their comments. You won’t be waiting so long as the show returns February 21, 2019. You can begin enjoying the hilarious guests, Juicebox, tims-wearing bear, and more.
This is Us (Season 3, Midseason return)
There isn’t much to say on this one because we all know how much we missed the show. One person we have missed most is Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and we can’t wait for her origin story in the new season. The show returns to NBC on January 15.
There are several other movies and TV shows of black origin, some we have talked about in previous posts and others we will discuss later in the year.
