WHY THE BAT FLIES AT NIGHT
Myths are beliefs held by an ethnic group which is passed from generation to generation by stories. These myths mostly explain supernatural events and natural phenomena, they also tell us about the universe and its different components.
Once upon a time, there was a great war between the animals who live in the sky and those that live on the ground.
Many animals on both sides were either killed or sustained injuries; and if they continued with the war, no animal would remain on earth. The animals had a meeting and agreed that from that day going forward, no more war but peace.
The animals appointed the Eagle and The Rabbit to take charge of information. Peace was restored and the animals all became one.
Bat, who was a cunning bird, first decided to join the birds who were winning, when the land animal started winning, he joined them.
Peace was restored and the animals called for a big feast; they also were angry at the cunning nature of the bat and decided to punish him, if they see him at the feast. Before the feast, the tortoise warned the bat not to come to the feast as the animals have planned to use his meat for the feast.
The bat quickly scuttled off and hid in a cave. After the feast, when all animals have gone to bed, the bat came out from the cave, to look for food and at day time he flew back to the cave.
The animals are still searching for the bat, to deal with him; and that is why the bat now flies only at night.
