We have been bringing you updates about the 68th edition of Miss Universe, and now we are elated to tell you and show you, that Our Motherland brought the crown Home, through Miss Zozibini Tunzi Of South Africa!
After excelling through rounds of swimsuit and evening gown struts, questions on social issues and one final chance to explain why she was the right choice, Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe Sunday night!
26 year old, Zozibini Tunzi beat 89 other women to clinch this crown as the first black woman from her country to win the Miss Universe crown.
The Queen works as an activist, and is particularly passionate about fighting gender-based violence. Natural beauty is also important to Tunzi, who believes women should “love themselves the way they are,” according to the Miss Universe website.
“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful,” she said in her last response as to why she should be crowned. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”
Our prayers at MBBA have been answered! We are also proud of all the black contestants who stood up to make our color and motherland proud!
This edition is a big win for Black people, the venue was Black Owned Tyler Perry studios, Hosted by our Black Brother, Steve Harvey and Won by The Motherland!!!
